김선태의 이미저리

김선태의 회화는 풍경이면서 풍경이 아니고 대상이면서 비대상이고, 형상이면서 추상을 지향한다. 그의 작업에는, 물감과 다양한 재료들의 만남을 주선하는 회화적 실험과 더불어 작가의 내면으로부터 분출하는 회화적 몸짓이 일렁인다. 이전에 형상이었던 이미지는 이내 지워지고 새로운 형상과 기호를 쌓아 올리는 추상적인 바탕으로 거듭나면서 그의 추상은 이미저리(imagery)가 된다. 그것은 끊임없이 회화적 바탕과 회화적 형상 사이의 간극을 오가는 회화적 몸짓이자 그것에 대한 지속적인 질문인 셈이다.

His paintings are both landscapes and not landscapes, that have objects and no objects at the same time, a configuration but aiming for the abstract. In his works, there are rocking painterly motions erupting from inside the artist, as well as painterly experiments to help colors meet many different materials. The images that are used to show objects soon disappear and are reborn as abstract backgrounds, building new forms and symbols, and then his abstract becomes imagery. That is perhaps painterly gestures, which go in and out of the gap between painterly base and painterly configuration, and continuous questions to the gestures.
