정봉채의 우포 풍경

 정봉채는 지금까지 15년이 넘는 세월 동안 한반도의 최대 습지인 우포에 자리하면서 시간에 따라 달라지는 우포의 풍경들을 기록해 왔다. 자연의 아름다움과 생명의 신비함을 기록하던 다큐멘터리 사진 형식으로부터 점차 다양한 모색을 거치는 실험 사진으로 다시 피사체의 우포 풍경을 절제된 표정으로 비워내는 예술 사진으로 변신하기까지 그는 자연과 인간 사이에서 정화(淨化)의 이미지를 렌즈 속에 포착해 왔다. 시원(始原)의 생태인 자연을 담아 인간의 마음마저 정화하는 그의 사진은 가시연의 생명 탐구로부터 늪의 존재 탐구로 확장하면서 심연(深淵)의 고요와 침묵을 획득한다. 그런 의미에서 그의 사진은 이미지로 펼쳐내는 한 편의 철학이라 할 것이다.

The Scenery of Upo by Jung Bongchae
For more than 15 years Jung has recorded the changing landscape by staying in Upo, which is the biggest swamp on the Korean peninsula. He has captured the images of purification between Human and nature, evolving from a documentary photo style that logs the splendors of nature and mysteries of life to an experimental photo style that seeks various ways, and to ultimately, an art photo style that simplifies the scenery of Upo, the subject, as an abstained countenance. His photos, which capture nature, the spontaneous ecology and even purifyabstract entrusting sensibility with its body. Under the name of abstract, his undifferentiated image chunks, which repeat piling and wiping up of matter, reflect on the topics cast by great artists after the 21st century.
